How to make your resume impressive?

Creating your first resume is frustrating, especially when you do not have anything to show for experience. Most college graduates just take a format that looks good from a friend (who got it from another friend) and change the details like name, address, percentages etc. What they do not realize is that the employers do not spend more than a minute on each resume and if your resume looks just the same as everyone else’s then it is very likely that the employer will not give it another look. It is therefore imperative that the resume brings out the message you want to convey instantly. Here are few things that an employer tries to assess in a resume:

HowToMakeResumeImpressive

Organization:

Your resume can look neat even with minimal information. It is not about cramming more stuff into the document but about organizing the information in such a way that the key points are highlighted and visible in first look. A resume where the employer does not need to scan the document for details shows that you know how to structure information saving time and effort. This is a key skill that an employer looks for in an employee.

Presentation:

It is important that the information is presented in such a way that it is appealing to the employer and generates an interest to read more. Content should be to the point and important keywords should be highlighted. Use of italics, bold, bullets and different fonts can make a resume stand out.

Association:

This is a critical aspect of resume writing and almost certainly lacking in a fresher’ resume. It is important that each and every piece of information in the resume contributes towards convincing the employer that you are the perfect candidate for the job. Even trivial looking personal details like hobbies or co-curricular activities can be showcased as professional skills. For example, when applying for any customer facing role, highlight your public speaking and eloquence activities like participation in a debate or dramatics event. Similarly when applying for a software engineer position, mentioning that you won a quiz or puzzle competition would display your analytical skills.

Originality:

Last but certainly not the least thing to keep in mind is that you are true to yourself when writing your resume. Copying a resume that looks and sounds impressive could get you higher in the filtering stage but when it comes to the interview, you must be able to justify each and every claim.
So, when you get down to writing your first resume, think about all the aspects that separate you from others and why should the employer hire you for the job. Also, ask yourself why you want to work for the employer and what value you can add to the organization. I know it is difficult for a fresher to answer these questions but it is something you have to do sooner or later and the sooner you get started, the more chances you have of tasting success. Good luck!
